NUMBERS

When it comes to looking at institutions and policy and policy choices, it is not long before you get to numbers.

Numbers are crunchy: Crunchicrant loves numbers and is dismayed by their absence in the political discourse – numbers, meaningful numbers, are at the heart of our coverage.

The convention used in political discourse is to quote numbers as total revenue, or cost, over a year or many years – ten years is a popular time period in the US.

What person can comprehend what the resultant numbers, usually quoted outside of any context, mean? Nobody can conceptualize billions let alone trillions. Nobody can relate those numbers to themselves.

Crunchicrant is dedicated to making numbers real, and therefore quotes numbers on a per person per year basis in the Country (or State or City) as appropriate.

Looked at that way, $1,000 is significant, and Crunchicrant treats it so.
