Fixing the environment

Crunchicrant seeks to be non partisan: but it struggles with lack of concern for the environment.

It seems pretty straightforward:

The decision we have, as a world, to make: should we try to reverse global warming?

It is by no means certain that we can reverse it: but the scientific consensus seems to be that we can slow it.

Consider:

  • We have one planet – there is no backup
  • Most scientists tell us it is a decision we need to make

Crunchicrant does not understand why this is left/right issue, but it seems to be

Possible factors:
An environmental fatalism that characterizes some evangelical theology – that theology’s political home is on the ‘right’ end of the spectrum

A skepticism about science and scientists, another trait whose adherents tend to find their political home on the ‘right’ end of the spectrum.

(Crunchicrant is not a science skeptic; there’s a real concern; the downside is bad – really bad – just playing the odds, judiciously, demands that we act, for inaction could lead to catastrophe)

Rationally, we need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
